Unfortunately there is no concrete standard. So what is being implied? If you are investigating an opportunity it pays to know what is being said.
 
Typically, the system will consist of tools, training and support. Here are some questions about a business system:
•    Is the system automated?
•    Is there training and to what extent?
•    Is there support and to what extent?
•    Can the methods and strategies of this system be duplicated by anyone?
•    Does the system include necessary tools such as websites and auto responders?
•    How are you paid?
•    Is there any residual income?
•    What is the cost?
•    What is the product or service specifically?
•    What is the current and anticipated future demand of the product or services?

Internet marketing business systems vary in specifics from company to company. Asking these questions should be a part of your due diligence. Unless you want to reinvent the wheel, you will be miles ahead if you can duplicate proven marketing methods and strategies. The best way is to "model" the system used by top producers and earners.

Residual income is an amount paid to you from your downline. Costs would include the initial investment and any maintenance fees. For a truer picture try to get an idea of any additional costs you may encounter such as marketing and advertising.

Understand exactly what the product or services are that you will represent and market. Make sure you are comfortable with them and you should be willing to use them if applicable.

Internet marketing, network marketing and online business as a whole seem huge now. When compared to future predictions though, we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg.
